Arrests Accomplice of Loan Shark Charging a Ruthless
2,000% Annual Interest Rate

On May 28, 2026, at approximately 9:50 a.m., the
Surveillance and Intelligence Center arrested Mr. Jittipong (surname withheld),
a suspect pursuant to Criminal Court arrest warrant No. 2799/2569 dated May 15,
2026. The suspect is charged with aiding and abetting others in charging
interest at a rate higher than specified by law. The arrest took place at the Department
of Special Investigation, the Government Complex Building C, 2nd
floor, Laksi District, Bangkok. Upon arrest, officers informed the suspect of
charges and legal rights under the Criminal Procedure Code, as well as the
requirement to continuously record a video and audio in the process of the
arrest and detention until the suspect is transferred to the special case
inquiry officials, pursuant to the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and
Enforced Disappearance Act, B.E. 2565 (2022). Subsequently, the suspect was
handed over to the special case inquiry official for further legal proceedings.
The aforementioned case is Special Case No.40/2567 by the Bureau of Justice Enhancement
Affairs. Mr. Jittipong committed wrongdoing by opening
bank accounts and activating mobile phone numbers to conduct electronic
transactions (E-Banking), which were used for transferring loans and receiving
loan shark debt payments that charge an interest rate of up to 2,000% per year.
The operation to track down and arrest
the suspect under the special case arrest warrant was conducted in accordance
with the directives of Police Major Yutthana Praedam, Director General of the
DSI, and Police Major Jatupol Bongkochmas, Deputy Director General of the DSI,
which assigned the Surveillance and Intelligence Center, a unit under the
Director General’s direct command, to organize operational teams to track
and apprehend suspects wanted under arrest warrants, in order to bring the
alleged offenders who remain at large to justice.
