DSI, LPN and IJM rescue a Myanmese female forced to work as salve for 13 years without salary

After obtaining the Labour Protection Network (LPN)’s report, on Saturday, December 4, 2021, about 4:00 p.m. about a request by a good citizen for urgent rescue a woman confined, detained at a house in Pakamas Village, Soi 11, Suan Luang Subdistrict, Suan Luang District, Bangkok, the Human Trafficking Crime Bureau of the DSI then reported it to its superiors for rescue operations. The Director General of the DSI Mr. Triyarith Temahivong assigned his deputy Pol.Lt.Col. Supat Thamthanarug to order the Director of Human Trafficking Crime Bureau, Pol.Maj. Siriwish Chantechasitkul, the Head of Human Trafficking Crime Division 1, Mr. Eakrin Dondong and Miss Worapatsorn Phankasem (special case officer, professional level) to go to the aforesaid area for urgent rescue operations, by exercising the power of the competent official pursuant to Section 27 (4) of the Anti Human Trafficking Act, B.E. 2551 (2008), with the LPN and the International Justice Mission (IJM).

Upon arriving at the place, the special case inquiry official team found a 26-year-old Myanmese woman named Win (alias) in weary condition, terror who asked for help to get out of the house as fast as possible. She, Win, was brought to work as a servant for more than 13 years. She neither received a salary nor knew what happened outside the house. Thus it is reasonable to believe that she is a victim of human trafficking, who was being exploited for forced labor, slavery, slavery like practices or any other forcible extortion. Therefore, the DSI and aforesaid agencies jointly rescued the victim, then giving her protection for mental recovery, providing sufficient time to ease her anxiety and terror, ensuring fully assisted services of both the public and private sectors provided to her, including physical check-up based on the principle of victim centric approach to ensure the readiness of victim before teaming up with interdisciplinary team to interview and identify the victim in accordance with the Anti Human Trafficking Act, B.E. 2551 (2008). Later on the Human Trafficking Crime Bureau of the DSI will take legal proceedings against related offender.

The DSI commits itself to continually investigate, inquire, prevent and suppress human trafficking crime. If the public has any information or clues relating to human trafficking, please inform the DSI at its address no. 128 Chaengwattana Road, Thung Song Hong Subdistrict, Lak Si District, Bangkok or its Hotline 1202 (Free call nationalwide), the DSI will kept informant’s information confidentially.
