The 19th bilateral meeting on combating human trafficking between the DSI and the MPF

 


 

On February 18-20, 2019 in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, the Director of Human Trafficking Crime Bureau Pol.Lt.Col.Supat Thamthanarag, assigned by the Director-General of the DSI, and his team attended the 19th Bilateral Meeting between the Myanmar Police Force (MPF) and the DSI on Combating Trafficking in Persons. This bilateral meeting was organized, subject to the Terms of Reference between the MPF and the DSI, with its purposes to discuss, assist, monitor and exchange information about human trafficking cases for their efficient prevention, suppression and investigations.

 

 

In the meeting, officials of both agencies shared their case information and discussed guidelines for monitoring cases of cross-border trafficking in persons between Thailand and Myanmar. The DSI offered to aid the MPF with information about online sex services relating to human trafficking and technologies for investigating such cases by coordinating with NGOs having expertise in employing technologies to counter online human trafficking. The DSI asked for cooperation in exchanging information about brokers. A new communication channel between officials of the DSI and the MPF, via a LINE application, was set up for coordinating urgent matters and exchanging information about human trafficking cases. The DSI and the MPF agreed to work together for elevating the status of Thailand to Tier 1 ranking.
