There are offender groups using social media i.e. LINE, Facebook, etc. to induce people to join in set up groups, then their team leaders will convince the investors by offering them the returns of up to 300%, or 1% per day, of the fund. After the injured persons transferred money to the offender groups’ set up bank accounts, they will get a password for accessing to the computer system to view the investments created by the offender groups. The offender groups will encourage the investors to persuade other people to invest by offering them a 10% commission of the sum of investment. After four months of fundraising, the offender groups will shut their websites or systems and take all the money.

Having received complaints filed by many injured persons who were tricked to invest in various forms of digital currencies with no profits or refunds due to the closure of the websites or corporations, the DSI wish to warn people not to invest in such business. According to the Bank of Thailand’s clarification, such digital currencies are neither legal tender nor lawful exchange system. Your chance to get refunds is difficult if the damage occurs.

Injured persons can inform or give clues on such crime via the DSI’s website, or in persons to the DSI’s special case inquiry officials at the Bureau of Illegal Financial Business Crime Tel: 0 2142 2831, or through the DSI’s Hotline 1202 (nationwide free of charge).
