In accordance with the policies and directives of the Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Minister of Justice, Police Lieutenant General Rutthapon Naowarat, instructing security agencies to accelerate narcotics suppression efforts as a priority agenda and to work in an integrated manner to expand investigations and decisively, continuously, and concretely prosecute offenders:
On Wednesday, August 19, 2026, under the direction of Police Major Yutthana Praedam (Director-General of the DSI), Police Major Jatupol Bongkochmas (Deputy Director-General of the DSI), and Police Major Kriengkrai Suebsumpan (Director of the Bureau of Regional Operations), instructions were issued to Mr. Somchai Tichai, Head of the Special Case Operations Center Region 5, alongside officers from the center. They coordinated intelligence and joint operations with the Pha Muang Force and the Mekong Riverine Unit (Chiang Rai Area) to intercept and suppress narcotics in Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province, under Investigation Case No. 98/2569, currently being investigated by the Special Case Operations Center Region 5.
This operation stemmed from joint intelligence gathering by the Pha Muang Force, the Mekong Riverine Unit (Chiang Rai Area), and the Special Case Operations Center Region 5 regarding drug trafficking in the northern border region. Sources tipped off officers that narcotics would be smuggled into Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province.
At 3:40 AM, operating units from the Pha Muang Force and the Mekong Riverine Unit discovered 34 suspicious sacks wrapped in black plastic bags and one white Mitsubishi vehicle along the banks of the Mekong River at Ban Tha Khan Thong, Ban Saeo Subdistrict, Chiang Saen District, Chiang Rai Province.
Upon inspection, authorities seized 10,000,000 methamphetamine pills, classified as a Category 1 illicit drug, found inside the sacks, along with the white Mitsubishi vehicle (license plate: Jor Thor 4647 Chiang Mai). The seized evidence was handed over to Chiang Saen Police Station for further legal proceedings.
This operation successfully intercepted a massive drug shipment before it could reach the country's inner regions. The Special Case Operations Center Region 5, under the Bureau of Regional Operations, will continue to accelerate integrated narcotics suppression efforts in its area of responsibility alongside relevant agencies to produce concrete results in line with the policy and directives of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice.
