DSI Joins Forces with Relevant Agencies to Intensify Nationwide Inspections of Fuel Traders, Preventing Hoarding and Illegal Sales

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI), through its Bureau of Regional Operations, has collaborated with relevant agencies to inspect fuel traders nationwide. This action follows the Prime Minister’s directive to prevent and address potential fuel shortages resulting from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

On March 24–25, 2026, DSI officers integrated forces with the Department of Energy Business, local administrative authorities, and police to conduct field inspections of licensed fuel traders—including major distributors and independent retailers— in multiple provinces across all regions of the country. The operation covered 16 provinces and a total of 35 strategic locations. The key operational details are as follows:

Central & Eastern Regions: Officers from the Special Case Operation Centers (Regions 1 and 2) inspected major oil depots in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Chonburi provinces. Most were found to manage their stock using standardized computer systems. However, in Saraburi province, authorities discovered three illegal fuel purchasing depots illicitly storing and selling over 29,000 liters of diesel and gasoline without notification or a license. Legal action is being prepared in accordance with the law.

Northeastern Region: Special Case Operation Center (Region 4) officers inspected jobbers and ethanol production plants in Khon Kaen, Kalasin, and Roi Et provinces to ensure equitable fuel distribution and prevent illegal exports during this crisis. The inspections confirmed that these establishments are operating legally, with clear price displays and standardized storage/transportation systems. No suspicious activities or signs of hoarding were detected.

Northern Region: Officers from Special Case Operation Centers (Regions 5 and 6) deployed across Chiang Rai, Lampang, Phichit, Kamphaeng Phet, and Tak provinces focused on rigorous inventory reconciliation. Physical stock levels were cross-referenced with accounting ledgers to detect hidden stockpiles. No irregularities were found.

Southern Region: Officers from Special Case Operation Centers (Regions 8, 9, and the Southern Border Provinces) visited establishments in Songkhla, Surat Thani, and Pattani provinces. The goal was to monitor ex-depot prices according to official announcements and gather feedback from operators regarding regional energy security strategies. The team inspected service stations, storage depots, fuel volume systems, and related documentation, using both automated monitoring systems and in-depth inspections.

The DSI remains committed to integrating efforts with all relevant agencies to proactively and continuously monitor and regulate the fuel trade, ensuring fair and transparent distribution. These efforts aim to prevent hoarding, illegal sales, and other violations that may affect the country’s energy security.
