DSI Helped Canadian Police Solve Cold Case

The DSI was first contacted by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) to help identify an unknown body, suspected to be a Thai man involved in a murder case in the city of Aurora in Ontario, Canada in November 2002.

The suspect is believed to have murdered his Thai male roommate before committing suicide by jumping on train tracks. As the forensic capabilities at the time were far less advanced than they are today and the body was too badly damaged to be identified, the case remained unsolved for years.

After receiving the request, the DSI launched an investigation, and collaborated with the Central Institute of Forensic Science (CIFS) to locate and collect DNA samples from the relatives of the suspect who are residing in Nakhon Srithammarat.

The DSI has recently learned from the RCMP that, with the help from the DSI and the CIFS, DNA testing could establish the identity of the unknown dead body.

As the cold case is now closed, the DSI will work with the Canadian and Thai agencies on remedy for the family and repatriation of the body from Canada to Thailand.
