On Monday, August 24, 2026, at 11.00 a.m., Police Major Yutthana Praedam, Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation, assigned Police Captain Witsanu Chimtragool, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation; along with Police Captain Thinavidth Silapat, Director of the Bureau of Foreign Affairs and Transnational Crime, to welcome Mr. Luigi Vissicchio, Italian Police Attaché; Mr. Alessio Grossi, Cyber Police; and Mr. Alessandro Geri, Immigration Officer at the Embassy of Italy in Thailand. The welcome took place on the occasion of their visit to the Department of Special Investigation for self-introduction, official discussion, and strengthening a relationship between the law enforcement organizations of both nations, resulting in intelligence sharing and cooperation arrangement in various dimensions listed as follows:
1.
Promoting the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation: DSI proposed
guidelines for official cooperation framework to establish direct channels for
contact and intelligence sharing between the DSI and Italy’s National Police,
which the Italian side agreed to submit for consideration by their headquarters
in Rome.
2.
Cooperation in Suppressing Transnational Organized Crime (I-CAN Program):
Italy’s National Police Introduced I-CAN project (Interpol Cooperation Against
‘Ndrangheta), an international initiative to track down and suppress mafia
network and ‘Ndrangheta organized crime from Italy, which has begun to exhibit
behaviors of expanding influence, investment, and money laundering into
Southeast Asia region. Both agencies are preparing for a joint workshop to
share intelligence during this September – October.
3.
Addressing Hybrid Threats and Cybercrime: the meeting discussed the trend of
“hybrid crime,” a complex threat linking online scam, human trafficking,
maritime smuggling, and money laundering, which requires joint innovation and
in-depth investigations.
4.
Personnel Capacity Building: Italy’s National Police offered special training
course quotas at International Advanced Training Institute for the Prevention
and the Fight against Organized Crime in Caserta City, Italy, as opportunities
for the DSI’s personnel to attend training course and build cooperation network
with other international law enforcements.
Department of Special Investigation remains committed to continuously developing cooperation with leading international law enforcement organizations to enhance the efficiency of preventing, suppressing, and timely intercepting threats from transnational organized crime, in order to safeguard the nation’s economic and social security.
