DSI coordinates with the HSI to seize over 5,000 counterfeit products worth more than 5 million baht

On Thursday, 3 August 2023, under supervision of the DSI Director-General Police Major Suriya Singhakamol, Deputy Director-General Police Lieutenant Colonel Phayao Thongsen, and Director of Bureau of Intellectual Property Crime Police Captain Polson Terdsanguan, DSI officers, led by its Deputy Director Police Major Stapong Chuamahawan, accompanied by Head of Intellectual Property Crime Division 3 Mr. Sakda Pipatthamakul, along with the Bureau’s officers and Bureau of Special Operations’ officers, equipped with a search warrant issued by the Central Intellectual Property and International Trade Court, conducted a joint raid on a warehouse suspected of storing and distributing trademark-infringing products at 6 locations within 2 villages in the vicinity of Moo. 2, Sisa Chorakhe Noi Subdistrict, Bang Sao Thong District, Samut Prakan Province. The inspection and identification of the trademark-infringing products were carried out with the participation of representatives from the injured persons and observed by officers from the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

The search resulted in the discovery of counterfeit products such as clothes, bags, watches and others, which infringed on trademarks registered by the injured persons, including Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Burberry, etc. These items were found at 5 out of the 6 searched locations, where they were pending delivery to customers. The total quantity exceeded 5,000 pieces and was currently undergoing inspection and sorting. There was reasonable ground to believe that the damage resulting from the commission of the offence exceeded 5 million baht and the nature of the offence corresponded to the nature of a special case under the Special Case Investigation Act, B.E. 2547(2004). The DSI officers then confiscated the aforementioned trademark-infringing products for examination and sending to the special case inquiry officials of the Intellectual Property Crime Bureau to further conduct the investigation into the case as a special case regarding the offence under the Trademark Act, B.E. 2534(1991), and other relevant offences.

The DSI has undertaken measures to prevent and suppress intellectual property infringement, aiming to promote economic systems and maintain good international relations. The Intellectual Property Crime Bureau has coordinated with the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to exchange information and learned that there are individuals involving in smuggling and distributing numerous trademark-infringing bags and other types of  products for export. Hence, the DSI has proceeded with investigation to gather facts and evidence for prosecuting the offenders.
